In the Supreme Name of God: Al-Muraqaba Al-Haddadiya و ل له ا أ ل أسم ء ا أ ل أسنى فا أدع وه ب ا There is agreement that the name is not the named. One day, in the presence of Mawlay Abd al-salam ibn Mashish, the murid Abu al-hasan al-shadhili wondered to himself about learning the Supreme Name from his master. The master s son responded, O Abu al-hasan, the real matter is not that you know the name, it is that you become the name! Names point to realities beyond themselves. They are but created letters assembled in a particular manner to signify particular meanings. To become the name is to become a human whose actions, words and states point to a transcendent reality. Asma bint Yazid reported that the Prophet, said, Shall I not tell you who the best of you are? Yes, they replied. He said, Those who when seen, God is remembered. (Al-Bukhari, al-adab al-mufrad) عن أسمء بنت يزيد قالت : قال النبي صىل ا ل ل عليه وسلم : «أال أخربكم بخياركم» قالوا : بىل قال : «الذين إذا رؤوا ذكر ا ل ل The Supreme Name of God is اهلل since it points to the Transcendent Divine Self (al-dhat al-aliya) who is characterized by the endless Divine perfections indicated by the Most Beautiful Names (al-asma al-husna). Some Sufis, however, hold that the Supreme Name of God is the perfect human servant of God, because his being points to God and reflects all of the Most Beautiful Names completely and perfectly. As such, they argue that the Prophet Muhammad is the Supreme Name of God; for he is the Mirror in which the realities of the Divine Names manifest (Majla Dhuhur Haqa iq al-asma). The Most Beautiful Names of God all manifest in the appearances of mankind. They spring forth to him singularly or together. They may even be gathered in a single being if he be a gnostic, and in this regard he becomes characterized by them. (Tafsir ibn Ajiba) These Muraqaba supplications are the inspired words of our Master Shaykh Abdallah al-haddad. The point of the Muraqaba is quite clear for anyone who reflects over its words; it is to become the name. The Shaykh has counseled us year after year in the month of Ramadan to recite a new inspiration without limit. Now we have a collection of five supplications compiled before us. Sayidi Shaykh Abdallah al-haddad has asked of this needy servant Ramzy Ajem, to convey the following: that he has given me complete authorization (ijaza mutlaqa) in compiling these Muraqaba supplications, in suggesting their order, times and method of recitation for our brothers and sisters in the path. As for the order and times to be recited in Ramadan, it is as follows: 1. Mondays Ya Fattah 2. Tuesdays Ya Fattah 3. Wednesdays Ya Fattah Ya Alim 4. Thursdays Ya Halim 5. Fridays Ya Wahhab 6. Saturdays Ya Latif 7. Sundays Ya Latif As for the method: 1. Study the meanings (If you do not know Arabic then study the English translation and match it with the Arabic); 2. Read from the paper until your pronunciation is perfect. 3. Recite it from memory with presence of mind throughout the day and night without limit. Do not let a word escape you without being attentive.
